Bone Conditions

We treat the following bone conditions of the foot

Arthritic conditions such as osteoarthritis

Osteoarthritis can cause pain in the foot and ankle, as well as unsteadiness when walking occasionally accompanied by a crunching or grating sound.

Bone spurs

Bone spurs are smooth bone growths that develop near the joints due to arthritis or joint damage. They can be painful, cause stiffness, and limit mobility.

Bunions

Bunions are bony protrusions at the base of the big toe that result from shifting bones within the foot that cause the tip of the toe to move inward as the joint becomes more pronounced.

Calcaneus (heel bone) fractures

Calcaneus fractures are painful fractures to the bone in the heel of the foot, often caused by trauma or high impact, like a car accident or a jump or fall from a high surface.

Gout

Gout is a complex form of arthritis that can cause sudden, severe pain and swelling of the feet and ankles and is caused by urate crystal accumulation in the joint.

Hallux rigidus

Hallux rigidus is a disorder at the joint of the big toe that can cause pain, stiffness, and limited mobility in the toe that worsens over time.

Hammertoes

Hammertoes are bone deformities in one or several toes, often caused by fancy footwear, nerve conditions, and trauma to the feet.

Mallet toes

Mallet toes are a type of hammertoe in which the toe bends abnormally at the joint closest to the nail. They can be caused by trauma to the toe, nerve conditions or constrictive footwear.

Osteochondritis dissecans

Osteochondritis dissecans is a bone condition in which the bone beneath the cartilage of a joint dies due to lack of blood flow. The bone & cartilage can then break loose.

Pilon fractures

Pilon fractures are bone breaks at the bottom of the tibia and involve the weight-bearing part of the ankle. A fibula break often accompanies it.

Sesamoiditis

Sesamoiditis is an inflammation of the sesamoid bones and surrounding tendons in the ball of the foot that is often caused by overuse and seen in athletes’ feet.

Shin splints

Shin splints are painful overuse injuries along the tibia or front of the shin. They’re common in runners, dancers, and military recruits and can be treated with lifestyle modifications.

Tailor’s bunion/bunionette

Tailor’s bunions, or bunionettes, are a protrusion of the fifth metatarsal bone, causing an uncomfortable bunion at the base of the smallest toe.

Tarsal coalition

Tarsal coalitions are genetically inherited abnormalities of the tarsal bones, in which bones are fused, or joints exist where they typically should not.

Vertical talus

Vertical talus is a congenital disability from the abnormal formation of the talus bone inside the ankle. Though not painful, it can cause flat feet and other foot deformities if not treated.
